CN Brown Company’s Employee Spotlight, August 2021 – Nicole Greenwood!

Enjoy what Nicole shared about her journey with CN Brown Company:

I started at CN Brown Company in August of 2000. I was fresh out of high school. I started out reconciling daily sales reports in the Accounting Department. I did those for one year then went on to inventory reconciliation. After 3 months reconciling inventories I became the Inventory/DSR Team Leader. I stayed in that position for several years before taking on cash reconciliations and working on miscellaneous projects. After almost 21 years I’m still working in the Accounting Department under the same amazing supervisor that hired me!

Q: Have you worked on any projects you’re particularly proud of since beginning with CN Brown Company?

I was pretty involved in the computer conversion from MWS/Pinnacle to PDI. That was very exciting helping with set up and seeing the entire process of how things flow. From hands work on at store level, to testing and doing more testing and finally seeing it all come together! That was awesome!

Q. How did your career progress at CN Brown Company?

Being barely 19 when I started, this was honestly just a temporary job for me at the time. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life just yet or if I’d move away. But I stuck around and I’m so happy I did! It’s a big joke that I’ve been here so long since this was “just a temporary job” when I started! But starting at an entry level position doing DSR’s and working my way up to Cash Reconciliation has been great! Being involved in conversions, projects and working on the yearly audit is a great way to learn so much!

 Q. What’s the best part of your current job?

The people, the flexibility, and getting to learn new things. I’ve made some amazing friends over the years here! Learning new things scares me because I don’t want to fail at it but is exciting at the same time because you have a better understanding of how everything works as a whole.

Q. What’s the most challenging part of your job?

Two things – One, my own patience level! I’ve come a long way in these 20.5 years, but I’m the type of person that speaks before she thinks. Oops! Haha And two – I’m very timid (aka scared to death) when it comes to public speaking. So I still struggle and freak out a bit when I have to talk at meetings. When I started I didn’t even like making phone calls to locations! I’d have other people call for me! No joke! Now I chat with location managers every day. Standing in front of a group still scares me though. Not sure that will ever change.

Q. What’s your favorite memory from working at CN Brown Company?

Helping with the MWS/Pinnacle to PDI conversion was great which helped earn me CN Brown Employee of the Year for 2019! That was pretty amazing!

Q. Why would you recommend working for CN Brown Company?

I would recommend working for CN Brown because of the flexibility.  It’s so good here! Eye appts, doctor and hair appts.  When your dog isn’t feeling well or has surgery and you need to come in late or take a vacation day you can.  Or if you just found out that Ocean State just got in a shipment of toilet paper in April of 2020 and you ask if you can leave work so you can go get a few rolls because we’re living in a pandemic and TP was hard to come by. You ask…and your boss lets you leave!
