CN Brown Company’s Employee Spotlight, October 2021- Lori Smallwood!

Enjoy what Lori shared about her journey with CN Brown Company:

Q. Tell us about yourself! Have you worked on any projects you’re particularly proud of?

When I moved to this area in the late 80’s, I was planning on getting a position in banking, as that was my work history in Northern Maine. I accepted a job here at CN Brown Company to get me by while getting my family settled and looking for a job in a particular area of banking. Now, 33 years later, I am still here! I have worked on several computer conversions over the years. I am extremely proud of the teams that made them all happen successfully and pretty darn smoothly. Retirement is coming up soon for me. I know that it will be very hard for me to adjust to not seeing the awesome folks I work with everyday that are also my friends.

Q. How did your career progress at CN Brown Company?

My first position here are CN Brown Company was in the Accounts Receivable Department auditing dealer meter reports. After a few months, I was asked to do reconciliations on the metered accounts. I took them home for the weekend and figured it out. After doing that for awhile, I was moved to credit and collections which included going on the road to visit the heating oil locations and review their accounts. I really enjoyed that as it was a great way to explore Central and Southern Maine. I got to meet a lot of the heating oil folks. I then became Department Manager which I did for about 15 years before taking my current position of Corporate Office Manager.

 Q. What’s the best part of your current job?

I love the variety of things I work on and get involved in. Everyday is different!

Q. What’s the most challenging part of your job?

As much as I love the variety, it may also be the most challenging as sometimes there may be a little too much going on in one day! That last 18 months have been challenging dealing with Covid, keeping everyone safe while keeping the company up and running.

Q. What’s your favorite memory from working at CN Brown Company?

There are so many great memories it would be hard to pick a favorite. Many of them are of the fun events I have been involved in over the years. Just as many are of the days spent working side by side with some great people. No matter the challenge or problem, we have always worked together to overcome obstacles, make improvements, and keep the company moving forward.

Q. Why would you recommend working for CN Brown Company?

At CN Brown Company you are given the opportunity to learn new things and advance your career. The flexibility of work hours that is available is so important in keeping the work and personal life balanced.

Thank you, Lori, for you 32 years of dedication to CN Brown Company! We appreciate YOU!
